Well of course I could just buy the components and have the workshop knock together a plastic case for the Watt balance, but building one out of Lego has several advantages. It makes it easier to perform maintenance because it’s easier to take apart and put back together again, and the non-sciencey parts are easy to replace should any go missing. Really though, the main reason is that building it out of Lego makes it less intimidating to people who aren’t familiar with scientific equipment and helps get across the idea that anyone can do science 🙂

I want to buy a couple of Lego Mindstorm kits – these are really good fun to use and the way you design your robot (because it is made out of Lego) is completely up to you! I will be taking these kits into schools to get more young people in to coding 🙂 and I really want to set up robot/coding clubs! What better way to learn than with Lego! 😀

I second Oliver motivation and I would add that a LEGO model would also give me the flexibility to change demonstrator quite often at essentially no cost! That is a big advantage considering the small budget we can usually spend on outreach activities.
      Plus LEGO is awesome!
