• Question: Will Technology ever pass Humans in the rate of development and become aware?

      I think so, and that is one of the risks of human extinction.

      AI are constantly improving and at some point they will pass the human brain capabilities. I hope we will be able to encode something like the Asimoov laws in them or we might be doomed.

      I’m less sure than my colleagues on this one. AI is still nowhere near the level it is in films, and we’re starting to reach limits on the possible power of a computer.

      At the moment at least a computer is still only able to do what we tell it to, it’s just that AI researchers tell it to try and learn things for itself!

      It”s good that we think about these risks well ahead of time though, because who knows what the future might bring?

      Yeah I agree with Ollie more on this… AI is extremely difficult to get right and so it is going to take a long long time until we get up to the level of say what you see in the film Ex Machina. But then once we are at that stage I agree with Michele and Vicky that the human race will be in trouble if we have done our job too well and they surpass human brain capabilities
