I’m afraid I haven’t discovered anything new – the work I do is in applied physics, so its all about applying physics in new ways. At the moment we are trying to build a superconducting undulator magnet – an undulator magnet is one of the magnets used in light source like the Diamond Light Source at the Rutherford Appleton Lab (if your interested I could tell you more about it or you could check out their website). In the past they have made undulators out of permanent magnets, but we are trying to make one out of superconducting magnets which would be more powerful if we succeed.
